if there’s one important thing i realised, is that in cold weather, nothing else matters but staying warm and protected from the wind that will literally slap your face every step of the way. so, kudos to those who stay stylish and presentable in cold. i failed.
so last weekend me and my cousin took a subway down to itaewon to try out the place where so many people have been recommending me (thank you!). like so many that i knew it had to be pretty amazing and my hopes were high.
it was in itaewon but after some research (aka naver map) i found that it was closer to noksapyeong station.
get out from exit three, cross the road, get on the skywalk, go up the hill and you’ll be able to find it. it’s near the entrance of itaewon where the arch is.
here it is! coreanos, where korean meets mexican.
it was founded by gene cho in austin, texas and started off as a food truck that was soon “named one of america’s best french fries by the us news & world report, and also the best food truck in texas and one of us’s best food trucks by smithsonian magazine and fox news.”
very impressive, well done!
we expected a long queue and to get a seat maybe hours after arrival since i knew it was the new it place to dine and also cos of the fact that this place aired in one of the very popular korean tv shows, 무한도전 (infinite challenge) – but to our surprise, it was kind of.. empty.
well, good for us, we got the seat right away and was served this delicious chips with four different salsas. asked for refill of the chips and they said it was four thousand krw. um nevermind..
“coreanos – the perfect harmony of savory korean bbq with the familiar flavors of mexican cuisine. every item on our menu delivers a unique flavor experience with every bite. indulge your taste buds in some mouthwatering goodness. your mouth will surely thank you.”
this is their most popular menu – three wise fries! french fries, marinated beef short rib, spicy marinated chicken, spicy twice cooked pork belly, grilled onions, cheese and el scorcho sauce.. there literally was a party in my mouth.
battered fish taco. fried fish with cabbage, spicy pico de gallo, pickled onions with a cilantro cream sauce. oh yeah.
you know how much i love mexican food and coreanos was no joke. it took mexican food to a whole new level. they definitely mastered in delivering mix of savory korean bbq with the familiar flavors of mexican cuisine. you were right… my mouth did really thank me. so thank you, coreanos.
